Recruitment Exceeds Expectations
The journey to be part of the UDA soccer program at the University of Chester started last November in Nashville TN and ended in Dallas TX last March for the 2019 incoming class. Over 100 prospects from across the USA attended the recruitment events and the program will add 29 students from 14 states studying across 15 different degree programs. These degree courses include acting, cybersecurity, a range of business and international business degree tracks and the traditional humanities and science degrees.
Director of Recruitment Coach Reilly, who oversaw the events across the USA stated, “The recruitment in 2019 went beyond our expectations. We will be at near capacity for the program this year, we thought it would take three to four years to build out. This means that the incoming class for 2020 will be limited given that we are going to have to cap the program numbers.”
Reilly further stated, “We are capping the academy so that all players are given an opportunity for development and exposure. Our goal is to provide the best student experience for all within our student support framework. This requires a focused and intentional recruitment strategy; building a personal relationship with students and families well before enrollment and support when they are part of the UDA program at the University of Chester.”

Game Schedule Expanded
UDA’s soccer program director at the University of Chester, Coach Joel Roberts will keep the carefully crafted schedule of games and enter two teams into competitive leagues for next year. This is to ensure all players within the academy play a competitive 28 game schedule over the training and playing year (Sept to May).
In June, at orientation in Columbus, Ohio, Roberts indicated that the academy will enter into a U21 development league in North West England, as well as into a University League. Despite these additions, the academy will keep its bespoke program of games that fits the development model of the UDA program.
UDA staff meets every player and family members at their events for one on one meetings to discuss the expectations and responsibilities associated with being part of the UDA program at Chester.
Future Recruitment Events
The recruitment events for 2020 are now posted and start in Phoenix AZ in November with an additional event in Lakewood Ranch, Florida in December, which will compile the fall recruitment events for the class of 2020. An additional recruitment event will be held in Dallas TX in March with other events occurring focused on the class of 2021 in the late spring/early summer.
