Former Manchester United Pre Academy Coach Joins UDA Staff

Joel Roberts, UDA Soccer Program Director, announced today that Richard Donnelly, who has been teaching Sport Science and Sport Coaching for 25 years will join the UDA coaching staff this fall.

The need to add Richard to the staff reflects the success and growth of the academy program and its continuing success.

In the UK, Richard was a Pre-Academy coach for Manchester United Football Club for 15 years before being appointed by Nicky Butt as the clubs Pre-Academy Manager. Richard has worked with youth academy players at Manchester Untied FC that have included Marcus Rashford, and Jessie Lingard.

With his academic and coaching experience Richard matches UDA focus on ensuring the best qualified staff, on the soccer field and within the academic fields, for students to ensure deliver of a quality university experience.

As well as being a qualified lecturer Richard possesses a Masters in Applied Sport Science and is both a UEFA qualified coach and Coach Educator.

Richard's roles have also included:

  • Player Liaison Officer for Proactive Sports Management (Football Agency)

  • Head of Coaching for Challenger Sports USA based in Kansas City.

  • Pre-Academy manager for Manchester United Football Club.

Additionally Richard acts as a consultant for both the English and Welsh FA in a number of different roles including Scouting and the delivery of Medical and Safeguarding qualifications.

One of the advantages Richard brings to the UDA academy is his understanding of the American Student Athlete having worked as a coach at High School soccer, ODP and Club soccer in the USA.
