UDA Soccer yesterday had the pleasure of hosting former Middlesbrough FC and Crystal Palace FC defender Craig Harrison at the University of Chester Campus to conduct a coaching masterclass.
Harrison, has played in the English Premier League before embarking on a hugely successful coaching career in the Welsh Premier League, most notably as Head Coach of The New Saints FC. TNS dominated the domestic game during his time at the helm and afforded him the opportunity to coach in the UEFA Champions League.
A UEFA Pro-Licence holder, Harrison is now Assistant Head Coach at Europa League entrants Connah’s Quay.
Reflecting on the session Harrison was appreciative of the efforts of the UDA Soccer players and spoke positively about ‘their work ethic and enthusiasm to try and take on board the information provided.’ Furthermore he was ‘impressed with level of ability shown by the players and encouraged by the potential shown.’
UDA Soccer Program Director Joel Roberts highlighted the importance of providing these unique experiences to all UDA players stating that ‘the chance to have Craig come and work with our boys was too good an opportunity to miss.”
Director Roberts added, “Coach Harrison has been really keen to support the program and his playing philosophy aligns with our own. His session was relevant to the work our coaches do on a daily basis and reinforced to our players the key principles of being able to play out from the back, being brave in possession and seeking to penetrate the opposition in our attacking play. It was expertly delivered and it was great to see the work translated into the 11 v11 as the session developed’
Harrison joins an impressive list of guests who have come in to work with UDA Soccer, both on and off the field, including former Republic of Ireland soccer captain Jon Walters and Mills & Reeve Litigation and Social Media Expert Rachel Somerset.
